Woman killed by ICE agent in Minneapolis identified
Renee Nicole Good, 37, was identified as the woman killed after being shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis
The woman who died on Wednesday, January 7, after being shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent during an operation south of Minneapolis, has been identified as Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old American. The family received notification of her death this morning and expressed their dismay at what happened. The victim was identified by her mother, Donna Ganger, who noted that the woman lived in the Twin Cities with her partner. “It’s stupid that they killed her,” she told the Minnesota Star Tribune. “She was probably terrified. She’s not part of any of that at all,” she said, referring to the protesters who clashed with ICE agents. Regarding Renee’s personality, her mother described her as “one of the kindest people I’ve ever known, extremely compassionate, who took care of people her whole life.” Conflicting Accounts: The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated that the woman died after attempting to run over federal agents and that the officer fired in self-defense. However, local accounts and publicly released videos contradict that narrative. Witnesses recorded officers surrounding the vehicle as the driver reversed and accelerated, but there is no clear evidence that the car was driven toward the officers. At least two or three shots were fired as the vehicle moved, and local police stated that the victim was blocking the road and was not under investigation. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey questioned the official version and called the incident a reckless use of power that resulted in a death, stating that the woman “was not attacking the officers.” Frey made a strong call for ICE to leave the city: “We don’t want you here! Your presence does not create security, but rather suffering and broken families.”
Trump's Statements
These statements increase tensions between the federal government and local authorities as the FBI investigates the shooting and reviews footage from witnesses and social media.
