Adriana Fonseca confronts those who criticize her for taking her father to an asylum
The Mexican actress confronted those who accused her of abandoning her father in a nursing home in Veracruz
The Mexican actress Adriana Fonseca, 46, is in the eye of controversy for a decision she made on a personal level, after she chose to admit her father, Don Hugo Fonseca, to an asylum.
“I don't have the special conditions to care for him. I decided to put him in a specialized facility. Now he's fine, but it's still sad to see him like this, to see him depressed, but he's stable," Fonseca said of her father, who suffers from Alzheimer's.
The actress's comments, as well as her actions, were the subject of criticism, as there were those who questioned her for believing she abandoned her father when he needed her most.
After becoming aware of the wave of criticism she received, Adriana Fonseca, who currently lives in the United States, defended that what she did was the best thing for her father, since he does not have a visa that would allow her to take him to live with her.
"I live in the United States, my father doesn't even have papers, I didn't process his visa, I wasn't going to take him across the border, I wasn't going to leave my husband to come live here, it's very easy to judge, but if you know the life story you can understand why certain decisions are made. It's not an easy decision, it broke my heart tell him and I've had to work on my guilt a lot in therapy," she admitted.
Although her father is in a nursing home, Adriana Fonseca explained that he's not in just any place, but rather she dedicated time and effort to choosing a location that would be best for him.
"I did a lot of research on places in Veracruz and found this place, it's religious and my father always grew up very religious. My grandmother taught catechism at the Veracruz cathedral. They managed to get me an appointment with the mother superior, I did a lot of research, suddenly I go there as a surprise, I see how my father is, how they treat him, I keep an eye on him. It's the best place he could be. He's better off than when he was alone, he was very neglected and malnourished, he even fell," she explained in an interview with 'Talentos Latinos México'.
The actress shared that she frequently visits her father, often as a surprise so they can't hide his condition, and so far she hasn't had any complaints. "He needs help now; he can't do it alone. It's not like I'm going to throw him out. I'm constantly going to see him and I surprise them," she concluded.
