After his arrest, William Levy will attend an anger management program
In April, the Cuban-born actor was arrested after getting into an altercation at a restaurant for refusing to pay the bill.
After his arrest, William Levy must attend an anger management program as part of the measures to prevent the case from advancing towards a more severe criminal trial.
This week, William Levy was absent from the first hearing before the criminal court of Broward County, Florida.
According to Telemundo, the Actor Regina Tsombanakis arrived 40 minutes late and asked court officials to postpone his appearance with Judge Melinda Brown until June 26.
Levy's legal representative said the actor intends to attend an initiative called the Non Diversion Program (NDP), which is designed to address behavioral issues such as anger management, despite having pleaded not guilty at a previous hearing.
The measure was suggested by Judge Melinda Brown to address the behavioral issues evident during Levy's altercation at a restaurant in Florida.
William Levy must attend the anger management program before his next court hearing, scheduled for June 26. Compliance with this measure could be key to avoiding more serious legal consequences.
Why was William Levy arrested?
In April, William Levy was arrested on several charges, including drunk driving, disorderly conduct, and trespassing.
The actor was arrested on the night of Monday, April 14, after getting into an altercation at a restaurant in Florida for refusing to pay the bill, but he was soon released.
According to People en Español, a source close to Levy said that the arrest occurred after the actor, who was at the Baires Grill restaurant with the parents of his son's friends, ordered a round of drinks for everyone and then refused to pay the bill.
“When the bill came, I don't know the exact amount, but it was an exorbitant figure, and he said he wasn't going to pay; he had already paid for a round of drinks for like 100 people,” the source told People in Spanish.
The altercation began after the actor pushed a person who approached him while he was arguing with the restaurant manager, so he was immediately asked to leave the restaurant, but he had to go back to get something he left on the table and was arrested.
"They asked Wiliam to leave the place and left his cell phone on the table, when he returned to get it they called the police and when he left the place they arrested him" said the source.
After the arrest, the actor had to spend the night in the Weston jail and on Tuesday morning he appeared before a judge in Broward County, who imposed a bail of 250 dollars for each charge in order to be released.
