Angel del Villar, ex-manager of Gerado Ortiz, sentenced to four years in prison
Angel del Villar will begin paying his sentence on December 1st after being found guilty of doing business with drug traffickers
Music producer Angel del Villar was sentenced on Friday, August 15th, to four years in prison and paid a fine of $2 million after it was proven that he conducted business transactions with a concert promoter in Mexico linked to money laundering for a drug cartel.
The man behind the success of Peso Pluma, Julion Alvarez and Gerardo Ortiz, heard his sentence from Judge Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong in a federal court in California.
After receiving his sentence, the controversial producer became the first entrepreneur in the genre to face trial and receive a ruling in the United States for violating the Kingpin Act, which prohibits citizens of the country from establishing business ties with designated drug traffickers.
In his case he was reported to have led to his doing business with Jesus 'Chucho' Perez Alvear, who laundered money for the Jalisco Nueva Generacion Cartel (CJNG). It was revealed that Chiquis Rivera's ex-husband will be sent to prison on December 1st, and his legal team has requested that he be transferred to a penitentiary in Southern California. In addition to the sentence against Angel del Villar, his record label, Del Records, will also have to pay a fine of $1.8 million, as well as a three-year probationary sentence. The sentence against Del Villar and Del Records' case comes after both parties were found guilty on March 27 of more than 11 federal charges in a Los Angeles court, including doing business with organized crime.
