Bad Bunny challenges Trump and defends immigrants in his video clip NuevaYol
Bad Bunny, in his video clip, imitated the voice of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, and sent a message to immigrants
Puerto Rican reggaeton singer Bad Bunny is causing a stir again, this time with the release of the video clip for 'NuevaYol', the main track from his most recent album 'Debi Tomar Mas Fotos'. The video, strategically released on July 4th U.S. Independence Day includes a powerful scene in which a voice identical to Donald Trump’s apologizes to immigrants, marking a powerful political message. Approximately three minutes into the video, the music abruptly stops as four men listen to a boom box playing an unexpected speech. The voice, almost indistinguishable from the former president’s, admits: “I made a mistake. I want to apologize to the immigrants in the United States… this country is nothing without the Mexicans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Cubans…” The recording, which clearly does not correspond to any actual speech by Trump known for his hardline stance against immigration appears to be a satirical recreation. It is not yet confirmed whether it was generated by AI or performed by an impersonator.
A symbol of protest in the music video
In addition to this provocative scene, 'NuevaYol' is loaded with symbolism. In an animated sequence, Bad Bunny waves the Puerto Rican flag from the head of the Statue of Liberty, a gesture that reaffirms his Boricua pride and his criticism of colonialism.
Another scene shows him celebrating a quinceanera, highlighting the importance of Latinx traditions in American culture.
This is not the first time the artist has faced Trump's rhetoric. In 2025, after comedian Tony Hinchcliffe made offensive comments about Puerto Rico at a rally for the former president, Bad Bunny responded by sharing a video in support of his homeland and endorsing Kamala Harris.
Another political gesture by the artist is the absence of US dates on his upcoming world tour. When asked why, he simply replied, "It's unnecessary." Some interpret this as a rejection of the country's immigration policies, while others see it as a strategy to prioritize international markets.
For now, the video clip is already generating reactions on social media, with many applauding its pro-immigrant message, and with 'NuevaYol', the artist reinforces his political stance.
