Ezra Miller reappears in Cannes and prepares its return to cinema after years of controversy
After some time away from the spotlight, Ezra Miller is ready to return to Hollywood
After a long period of silence and scandals, Ezra Miller known for his role as 'The Flash' and for his performance in the acclaimed 'We Need to Talk About Kevin' has given clear signs of a return to the film industry. Two years after his last on-screen appearance and three years after facing multiple legal issues, the actor made his public comeback at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, surprising many in the industry. Miller attended the prestigious festival to support 'Die My Love,' a film by his friend and collaborator Lynne Ramsay, a director with whom he previously worked. “She's one of my closest friends in the world and one of the greatest living filmmakers,” Miller said in a recent interview with Lo Speciale Giornale. The connection between the two goes beyond their shared past: Ramsay announced that Miller will star in his next film, a project described as a vampire story, which the two are co-writing. “It's probably the first thing I'll do: a movie we're writing together,” said the actor, who uses they/them pronouns. He also confessed to finding solace in writing during his time away from the spotlight: “I've been writing a lot because you can do it in solitude, which has been very enjoyable.”
A Return After Controversy
This comeback comes after a turbulent period in Miller's life. In 2020, a video in which he apparently assaulted a woman in Iceland sparked widespread outrage.
This was followed by multiple accusations in 2022, including child sexual assault, abuse, and harassment, as well as several arrests for disorderly conduct. Although some charges, such as a 2023 burglary charge in Vermont, were dismissed through plea deals, the damage to his public image was profound.
Amid the scandal, Miller issued a statement acknowledging that he was “going through an intense crisis” and admitted to “complex mental health issues,” assuring that he had begun ongoing treatment.
Today, with a more introspective attitude, the actor reflects on the lessons he learned from those dark years. “I'm really, really grateful for the lessons that came with that abyss,” he said. He also criticized aspects of the entertainment world, stating, “When you work in this industry, you're going to find yourself in a very, very deep relationship with people who don't give a damn about you or your well-being at all.”
Although his future in Hollywood is still uncertain and his public image remains a subject of debate, the truth is that Miller is trying to rebuild his career. With a new project in the works and a personal transformation underway, the actor seems determined to give new meaning to his relationship with cinema.
