Belinda Announces the Start of Filming for Carlota
For the development of the series, the Mexican singer had to temporarily move from Mexico to Spain to lead the recordings of the project
The wait is over for one of the most ambitious audiovisual projects of the year. Belinda and Spanish actor Miguel Angel Silvestre stole the show this weekend at the Pompeyo Hall of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, during the official presentation of the start of filming for Carlota, the new HBO original production.
After three years of development, the series finally comes to life under the direction of an international team. Belinda, who will play the iconic Carlota, the last Empress of Mexico, shared her excitement on social media about the start of filming for the series. “This project is now a reality! Being able to bring Carlota to life is a dream. What a great team, let's have fun on this journey,” wrote the artist, who temporarily moved to Spain to lead the filming. For this role, the Mexican star also traded her signature blonde hair for a brunette shade more in keeping with the historical period. She is expected to sport period hairstyles on screen, including the classic updos and ringlets that characterized the monarch in the 19th century. The camaraderie between the leads was evident during the event, which was also attended by figures such as Mabel Cadena and Sebastian Zurita. The plot will explore a high-tension romantic and political triangle. Miguel Angel Silvestre will play Alfred van der Smissen, a retired Belgian military officer in charge of the Empress's security, while Jaime Lorente will complete the central cast as Maximilian of Habsburg. The filming, which will take place in Spain and Mexico, promises to be an emotional and visual journey that revives one of the most controversial and fascinating episodes in Mexican history. With this project, Belinda consolidates her return to acting at a stage of professional maturity that places her once again at the top of the international scene.
