Dona Cuquita, widow of Vicente Fernandez, surprises by kissing a man in concert
During Alejandro Fernandez's concert in Las Vegas, Dona Cuquita was spotted with an elderly man... who turned out to be none other than her brother
A video showing Maria del Refugio Abarca Villasenor, affectionately known as “Dona Cuquita” — widow of legendary ranchera music icon Vicente Fernandez — sharing a kiss with a man during a concert by her son, Alejandro Fernandez, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas Vegas, went viral and generated a huge impact on social media.
In the images, the matriarch of the Fernandez dynasty appears very close to an elderly man, generating thousands of comments, speculation... and even scandal.
The reason? In the video, the two embrace affectionately and, according to some users, even kiss on the mouth. The scene, captured by public cameras and then widely disseminated, provoked a wave of reactions: from those who celebrated that Dona Cuquita "had a new partner" after the death of "Chente", to those who questioned the gesture for considering it inappropriate.
The "mysterious man" has a name... and a relationship
It was Vicente Fernandez Jr. himself, Dona Cuquita's son, who clarified the misunderstanding. In a video shared by journalist Flor Rubio, Vicentico confirmed that the man accompanying his mother was not a suitor or a stranger, but Javier Abarca Villasenor, Cuquita's 92-year-old brother.
Host Joanna Vega-Biestro, of the program Sale el Sol, also corroborated this information during the broadcast of the show, where the viral video was analyzed. "He's her brother, there's nothing strange," she assured, trying to put out the flames of controversy.
Journalist Gustavo Adolfo Infante, also present on the program, provided a key piece of information: in the Fernandez family, kissing on the mouth as a sign of affection between family members is a deep-rooted tradition. "This is how they greet each other, with kisses on the mouth, without ulterior motives," he explained, recalling that this gesture has even been seen between Vicente Fernandez and his children on multiple occasions.
Therefore, what for many seemed like a romantic or inappropriate gesture, was nothing more than an expression of affection between brothers, within a deeply rooted family custom.
Maria del Refugio Abarca Villasenor, a beloved and respected figure in Mexican show business, has been in the public eye not only for being the widow of “El Charro de Huentitan,” but also for her strength in the face of adversity.
Recently, she has even had to respond to criticism about why she endured Vicente Fernandez’s infidelities during their marriage, a topic she has addressed with maturity and dignity on her social media.
