Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic join their talent in “A Concert for Venezuela”
The concert in support of those affected by the earthquakes in Venezuela will take place on August 23 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles
The support for those affected by the earthquakes that hit Venezuelan territory does not stop. Proof of this is the initiative “A Concert for Venezuela”, a special charity show starring Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Phil that will take place on Sunday, August 23 at the Hollywood Bowl.
Presented in response to the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela, the renowned conductor and composer's native country, the concert will raise funds to support affected communities.
"Every person who joins us and every contribution made is a reminder to the people of Venezuela that they are not alone. Together, through music, generosity and hope, we will help our country heal and rebuild," declared Gustavo Dudamel in a statement.
Both Dudamel and the musicians of the Los Angeles Philharmonic will donate their time for this event.
"Venezuela will always be my home and, at every moment, my thoughts are with the families whose lives were changed forever because of this tragedy. The suffering is immense, but so are the strength and resilience of our people. This concert at the Hollywood Bowl is an invitation to come together and transform our compassion into action," the composer reiterated.
For her part, the president and executive director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic took the microphones to thank the willingness of those who joined the cause, arguing that “our responsibility as an institution goes beyond the stage.”
So much so that Kim Noltemy announced a financial donation that will be added to the amount raised with the concert: "We appreciate the opportunity to provide direct financial support to the relief efforts for the communities of Venezuela through a charitable donation of $50,000 dollars, and to accompany Gustavo to make this concert at the Hollywood Bowl possible," she said.
At the moment it has been confirmed that Gustavo Dudamel will conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic (LA Phil) during the concert and that the complete program, as well as the rest of the guest artists, will be announced soon.
This will be Dudamel's final concert as Musical and Artistic Director of the LA Phil and replaces the previously announced “Celebrating Gustavo at the Bowl: A Musical Legacy,” which was originally announced in February. The concert will continue to be part of the week-long celebrations at the end of August honoring Dudamel's extraordinary legacy with the LA Phil.
