Euphoria set a viewing record with its third season trailer
The return of the HBO Max teen drama becomes the most successful original series trailer launch in the platform's history
The cultural phenomenon Euphoria set a new record. Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed on Friday that the official trailer for the highly anticipated third season of the series starring Zendaya set a new HBO Max viewership record, racking up nearly 100 million views in its first 48 hours. According to Deadline, these figures make the trailer for the series created by Sam Levinson the biggest original series trailer launch for the streaming service in that timeframe, surpassing other platform heavyweights like The House of the Dragon and The Last of Us. A Time Jump and New Crises: The trailer offers the first glimpse of the five-year time jump that will take the protagonists beyond the halls of East Highland High School. The plot follows Rue (Zendaya) as she tries to rebuild her life while dealing with an outstanding debt to the dangerous drug dealer Laurie. The trailer surprised fans by showing Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Nate (Jacob Elordi) as a committed couple, albeit one embroiled in new turmoil related to Cassie's foray into creating adult content. The main cast, which includes world-class stars like Hunter Schafer, returns at a stage where "adult life isn't exactly what they expected." In addition, the participation of figures such as Rosalia and Natasha Lyonne for this installment was confirmed.
The third season of Euphoria will premiere on April 12, 2026. It will consist of eight episodes that will air weekly, occupying the coveted Sunday night primetime slot.
With the excitement generated by this first look, projections indicate that the premiere of the third season of Euphoria could mark a new historical viewership milestone for cable television and streaming.
