Jessie J can't hold back her tears when remembering her 2021 miscarriage at a concert
Jessie J returned to the stage and presented her new song 'Comes in Waves', which speaks about a loss in 2021
British singer Jessie J returned to the stage with moving honesty, openly sharing the painful personal journey that marked her life in recent years. In an emotional concert in London, the 37-year-old artist presented her new song, “Comes in Waves,” breaking down in tears as she dedicated it to the loss of her pregnancy in 2021. With her heart on her sleeve and facing her audience, Jessie J, whose real name is Jessica Cornish, explained the meaning behind the powerful ballad. “Today marks four years since the loss of my baby,” the artist confessed, according to a video from The Daily Mail. “I don't know if anyone else has been through the same thing, but if you have, or you know someone close to you and you saw it, it's truly terrible.” She added that a miscarriage is “something you can never really prepare for.”
An emotional performance
The performance was so visceral that the 'Price Tag' singer needed to step away from the audience to wipe away her tears before belting out heartbreaking verses like: “There's no one to blame, you just ran away,” “I'm sorry we never met,” and “I hate how much I miss the future we never made.”
This isn't the first time Jessie J has spoken about this trauma. In November 2021, the artist revealed in an Instagram post—which she later deleted—that she had decided to become a mother on her own, but that a routine ultrasound revealed “no heartbeat.” Since that loss, the singer has welcomed her son, Sky, with her boyfriend, Chanan Safir Colman. But the loss hasn't been the only challenge she has faced. The emotional concert in London, which served to present her latest album, 'Don't Tease Me With a Good Time', also comes after she underwent surgery for breast cancer earlier this year. Jessie J revealed her diagnosis with her characteristic humor, joking that it was “a very dramatic way to get a boob job.” In an Instagram post in June, She explained that she was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer, just as she was releasing her song “No Secrets.”
“Cancer is horrible in any way, but I'm holding on to the word 'early',” she wrote, showing admirable optimism.
Despite the blow, she expressed that what broke her heart the most was knowing that “so many people are going through so much. Similar and worse.”
