A Chinese brand grows again after eight months of uncertainty
Exports boosted BYD, which recovered sales growth and saw the value of its shares rise after difficult months
BYD found outside of China the formula to change the course of a year that had been difficult. After going through eight months marked by pressure on its shares and a slowdown in its local market, the manufacturer managed to regain optimism thanks to the excellent performance of its international sales.

The latest business results reflect an important change for the company. The growth in exports made it possible to compensate for the loss of pace in China and generated a positive reaction among investors, who once again supported the company in the financial markets.

The good moment also coincides with significant progress in Europe, where BYD managed to become, for the first time in 15 years, the Chinese brand with the most sales, surpassing MG in that market.
Exports drive recovery
The main driver of this rebound was the behavior of sales outside China. In June alone, BYD sold 175,349 vehicles in international markets, a record number for the company and a year-on-year growth of 94.73%.
This result far exceeds the records reached months ago, when exports were around 135,000 units per month. In addition, international sales already represent 42% of the total volume of vehicles delivered by the company.
The evolution has been constant. In March, exports represented 40% of the business, while in April that share increased to 41.9%, confirming that international growth has become one of the main pillars of the brand.
China loses strength, but the balance remains positive
While foreign markets are experiencing a moment of expansion, the situation in China is very different. During June, BYD delivered 222,809 vehicles in its country, which represents a drop of 22.02% compared to the same month last year.
The reduction in volume responds, among other factors, to the end of some government incentives that for years promoted the purchase of electrified vehicles. This reality has forced the manufacturer to depend increasingly on its international presence.
Despite this, the overall result was favorable. Adding all markets, BYD registered 403,472 cars in June, a year-on-year increase of 5.46%.
Growth continues with a diversified offer
Of the total vehicles sold, 201,472 were fully electric models, while 195,820 were plug-in hybrids. Although electric vehicles registered a slight reduction compared to the previous year, demand for plug-in hybrids continued to grow strongly.
The company hopes to reinforce this trend in Europe with new products specifically adapted to that market, a strategy that seeks to consolidate the growth achieved in recent months.
Between January and June, BYD exceeded 1.5 million vehicles sold worldwide. Although the accumulated figure is still slightly below that registered in the same period of the previous year, the change in trend has renewed the company's expectations.
The solid performance of exports, the strengthening of its presence in Europe and the launch of new models allow us to anticipate a much more favorable second half of the year.
