Nikki Glaser's joke to Leonardo DiCaprio about the age of his girlfriends
Days before the awards, the comedian said she would try to avoid
The 83rd Golden Globes kicked off with the irreverence that characterizes Nikki Glaser. The comedian, who returned for the second consecutive year as host of the awards, didn't miss the opportunity to take a jab at one of the brightest stars of the night: Leonardo DiCaprio. Despite Glaser having commented in interviews days before the gala that she would try to avoid the "cliche" jokes that have been made about the actor for years, the temptation proved too strong. During her opening monologue, Glaser launched a biting joke about DiCaprio's well-known preference for dating significantly younger women. "Leonardo DiCaprio is here for his amazing movie One Battle After Another," Glaser began to a celebrity-filled audience. “Leo is so dedicated to his craft that, to prepare for this role, he had to convince his girlfriend that the film was a high school history textbook, just so she would agree to watch it with him.”
The joke elicited a mixture of uproarious laughter and some expressions of astonishment at the Beverly Hilton. DiCaprio, nominated for Best Actor, reacted with his characteristic diplomatic smile.
Glaser also took the opportunity to joke about other current events and industry figures, but his “tribute” to DiCaprio was undoubtedly one of the most talked-about moments on social media.
This year, the nominations for the awards given by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association are led by the film One Battle After Another, with 9 nominations.
In the film category, it is followed by Frankenstein and the Brazilian film The Secret Agent; While in the television categories, Adolescence, The White Lotus, and Severance stand out.
