Paris Jackson tells how substance use affected her life
Michael Jackson's daughter opened up about her tough fight against alcohol and drugs and how they negatively transformed her behavior
In a revealing and raw interview for the Trying Not to Die podcast, hosted by Jack Osbourne, Paris Jackson spoke openly about the impact that substance use had on her mental health and behavior during her darkest years.
The 28-year-old artist admitted that addictions compromised her “moral compass” with behaviors that are difficult for her to recognize today.
“It's really morally unpleasant behavior, because I was raised to be kind,” the singer confessed. Jackson explained that while she holds firm to her principles when sober, the effects of drugs and alcohol erased that structure.
"When I drink, that goes away. It goes away and I become a very vengeful person," he added.
The composer, who has now accumulated six years of sobriety after seeking medical treatment for the first time at the age of 17, clarified that her mental health problems began long before her addictions.
During his childhood, he faced difficulties related to self-harm and eating disorders, manifesting from an early age a constant desire to fill emotional voids with external factors.
Through her reflections, the daughter of the “King of Pop” recognized that the path to recovery has not been perfect and that life can become extremely complex without the old survival mechanisms.
Currently, in addition to dealing with diagnoses such as major depression and post-traumatic stress, Jackson continues to focus on her well-being, alternating her personal process with her musical side and her presence in the entertainment industry and audiovisual productions.
