Spanish singer Rosalia is in the middle of a controversy after statements in which she described herself as "the opposite" of Puerto Rican Bad Bunny, in relation to her approach to language in music. Following the criticism she received, especially on platforms like TikTok, the artist clarified that her words were misinterpreted and taken out of context. The controversy stems from an episode of the 'New York Times Popcast' podcast, published on October 30. In it, Rosalia contrasted her artistic perspective with that of Bad Bunny. Referring to the reggaeton artist's decision to record only in Spanish, the "Motomami" singer commented: "I think I'm the opposite of Benito. I do care. It matters so much to me that I'm definitely going to make the effort to sing in a language that isn't mine. That isn't my comfort zone." These statements came shortly after Bad Bunny stated that he felt "no obligation" to sing in languages ??other than Spanish for his music to be understood globally. The artist has built his international career by defending his Latin identity and choosing to perform all his music in his native language. The controversy erupted when a TikTok user named Blanca criticized Rosalia's stance, arguing that Bad Bunny's decision to sing only in Spanish is a "political statement" with which the artist Being Spanish, not being Latina, she couldn't identify with it. The message also accused Rosalia of benefiting from Latin culture without fully understanding its background.
Rosalia's response was swift. Through a message, the singer asked that her words not be misinterpreted and reiterated her admiration and respect for Bad Bunny.
“Hey, I understand your point of view, but I think it's being taken out of context,” she wrote. “I have nothing but love and respect for Benito,He is a great colleague whom I admire and with whom I have been lucky enough to collaborate.” Both artists joined forces on the hit single 'La Noche de Anoche' in 2021.
The Spanish singer also expressed:"I have always been grateful to Latin America because, although I come from somewhere else, Latin people have always supported me throughout my career, and I empathize with what you are saying. That is why it saddens me that this is being misinterpreted, because that was not the intention."
