Russell Brand criticized Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau's relationship
The British comedian, who was married to the singer, did not hesitate to question his ex-wife's new relationship with the former Prime Minister of Canada
British comedian Russell Brand sparked a new controversy by publicly criticizing the recent romantic relationship between his ex-wife, singer Katy Perry, and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
During his appearance at the AmericaFest event in Turning Point, USA, Brand didn't hold back when describing the Canadian politician. Before a conservative audience in Phoenix, the 50-year-old actor addressed his past marriage to the "Roar" singer. "Look, I was married to Katy Perry. I still love her, and I'm glad her mother is here today to hear me say this," Brand began, before taking a swipe at the star's new partner. "I accepted Orlando Bloom, but Justin Trudeau? Please, man! Don't put me in the same category as that guy! That globalist puppet," he declared. Brand's reaction comes weeks after Perry, 41, and Trudeau, 53, made their relationship official on social media after months of speculation. The couple was first spotted in Montreal during the summer and recently shared pictures from a trip together to Tokyo. Trudeau, who stepped down as prime minister earlier this year, separated from his wife Sophie Gregoire in 2023. The British comedian, who has adopted a more radical and conservative political stance in recent years, used the podium to question Trudeau's policies, accusing him of using "progressivism" as a tool for social control. Perry and Brand were married between 2010 and 2012. Their marriage ended abruptly when the comedian filed for divorce via text message. The singer appears to have found a new chapter with the former prime minister after her breakup with Orlando Bloom, while Brand remains embroiled in legal battles after being formally charged with sexual assault in the UK, charges he categorically denies.
