'Zootopia 2' reaches one billion dollars at worldwide box office in record time
Disney's sequel arrived at the perfect time for animation, as Pixar's 'Elio' was a box office flop
Disney's animated sequel, 'Zootopia 2', achieved a historic milestone by surpassing one billion dollars at the worldwide box office after only 17 days in theaters, according to Box Mojo Office, becoming the fastest PG-13 film to reach this coveted figure in cinematic history.
To date, the film has grossed $986.1 million, broken down into $232.7 million domestically (United States) and $753.4 million internationally. It is estimated that the production will officially reach the $1 billion mark this Friday, according to current projections.
This achievement places it among only 13 animated films that have surpassed this figure, ten of which are Disney productions.
A Historic Opening
The film arrived in theaters just before Thanksgiving, unleashing a box office explosion with an opening weekend of $158 million in North America and $559 million worldwide over the five-day holiday weekend. These numbers represent:
