According to the information received, there were 3,16,30,292 accounts under Savings Account, Recurring Deposit, Time Deposit Scheme, Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme, Public Provident Fund, and Senior Citizen Saving Scheme during the year 2019-20 in 25 divisions of Bihar Circle Postal Department.
Accounts closed due to mandatory PAN and Aadhar card
This figure has come down to 1,50,54,098 in the year 2021-2022 and to 1,25,26,686 in the year 2022-23. According to the senior officials of the post office, then this decline has happened due to the mandatory PAN and Aadhar card. On the other hand, in view of the continuous decline in various savings accounts, the postal department is also running special drives from time to time.

Despite this, new accounts are not opening as expected. According to the information received, there were 15,50,289 savings accounts in Muzaffarpur division in the year 2019-20, which decreased to 8,41,817 in 2021-22 and 7,63,091 in 2022-23. Whereas in Bhagalpur division, the number of savings account holders in the year 2019-20 was 13,35,719, which decreased to 5,98,941 in the year 2021-22 and 6,03,112 in 2022-23.

More than four lakh accounts are inoperative in Bhagalpur and Banka
Here, in the post offices of Bhagalpur and Banka district, more than four lakh accounts of account holders are inoperative, in which no transaction has taken place for the last three years. The account holders have not shown any interest in running these accounts. Even after opening the account, no one has claimed the amount lying in it. There are 13 lakh account holders in the post offices of Bhagalpur and Banka, in which only nine lakh accounts are being operated.

It will be seen that how much amount is in the inactive accounts of which person. Earlier the account was opened with Rs 20 and Rs 50. At present, there is a provision to keep the minimum balance of Rs 500. The account holder with large amount can operate the account.
