Karnataka High Court has become very angry over non-filing of compliance report on maintenance of public toilets. During the hearing, the High Court imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on the government. During the hearing, a division bench of Chief Justice Prasanna B Varale and Justice Krishna S Dixit ordered that the Secretary of the Urban Development Department will be personally present in the court. The court has ordered him to be present at the next hearing to be held on November 2.

The city municipal corporation (BBMP) had filed a report in the previous hearing of the PIL filed by NGO Letzkit Foundation. The BBMP was directed to file a comprehensive report on the condition of public and community toilets in the city within three weeks.

Petitioners' lawyer Puttij Ramesh said that the government's neglectful attitude towards the citizens is visible. Taking serious note of the officials' failure to file the report, the High Court imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on the Karnataka government. The BBMP had filed a report on August 6 which the court refused to accept as it was incomplete and lacking details.
