A group of robbers posing as CBI officers raided a businessman's house in West Bengal's capital Kolkata and decamped with Rs 30 lakh in cash and jewelery worth lakhs. The Kolkata Police said on Tuesday that the matter pertains to Bhawanipur area of the city.
Suresh Wadhwa, 60, a businessman, has lodged a complaint with the police station regarding the robbery. He has said in his complaint that around 8 am on Monday 7-8 people reached his house and introduced themselves as CBI officers. After this started searching the house.
Wadhwa told the media that the robbers arrived in three vehicles which had police stickers on them. I opened the door and they stopped me saying they are CBI officers. I asked him to show the identity card, but by then he entered the house. He claimed that before leaving, the robbers said that the seizure list would be sent after some time and made away with jewelry worth Rs 30 lakh and lakhs. The criminals also said that later they would be called to the CBI office.
Police suspect people close to the family
At the same time, after the complaint of the businessman, the Kolkata Police has started investigating the matter. The police officer said that the investigation has been handed over to the officers of the Detective Department of Kolkata Police. He said that preliminary investigation revealed that the criminals had reached the businessman's residence with a complete plan.
