“Mamata Banerjee Accuses BJP of Plotting Pre-Election Violence in West Bengal”
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accuses the BJP of planning pre-election violence, alleging their intention to incite unrest ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Tensions rise as the NIA conducts investigations in the state.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has strongly criticized the BJP, accusing the party of planning to incite violence just two days before the commencement of the Lok Sabha elections on April 17. In her remarks, Banerjee emphasized that 'Lord Ram does not advocate violence, but the BJP is intent on instigating riots.' She specifically pointed to the recent presence of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the state, suggesting that the BJP aims to stir unrest by deploying the agency.
The comments come in the wake of an incident where a team of NIA officers visited the residence of a Trinamool Congress leader in Bhupatinagar, East Midnapore, on Saturday morning to investigate a blast case from 2022. However, the team faced resistance from villagers, leading to an altercation where stones were thrown at the NIA vehicle. Addressing the public in Purulia, Mamata Banerjee cautioned against rioting, asserting that while political rallies and meetings are acceptable, resorting to violence is not.
Furthermore, TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee echoed Banerjee's sentiments, warning of exposing the alleged 'conspiracy of the BJP' and their purported alliance with the NIA. The arrest of two local TMC leaders, Manobrata Jana and Balchandra Maiti, by the NIA in connection with the 2022 blast case further fueled Banerjee's allegations of political maneuvering ahead of the elections.
Banerjee questioned the timing and manner of the arrests, insinuating that they were strategically carried out to favor the BJP's electoral prospects. She criticized the NIA's actions, questioning their jurisdiction and accusing them of colluding with the BJP to target political opponents. However, the NIA refuted these allegations, asserting that their operations were conducted within legal bounds as part of an ongoing investigation into a serious crime involving the manufacturing of explosives.
The NIA clarified that the raid was prompted by an explosion in Naruabila village, resulting in casualties, and emphasized the legitimacy of their actions. Despite the assurances from the investigating agency, the political tensions in West Bengal remain high as the Lok Sabha elections draw near.
