Manipur: Death toll in Tengnoupal violence rises to three, 37-year-old man dies during treatment
The death toll in Friday's firing at Pallel in Manipur's Tengnoupal district has risen from two to three.

The death toll in Manipur's Pallel violence in Tengnoupal district has risen to three with a 37-year-old man succumbing to his injuries at a hospital. The man sustained bullet injuries on his head in a shootout between security forces and an armed gang, following which he was admitted to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal. The person died on Friday night itself during treatment.
About 50 people were injured in the firing, including security forces personnel. There was exchange of fire between security forces and armed men in Molnoi village near Pallel around 6 am on Friday. Hearing about the firing incident, large groups of Meitei community members including Mira Pabis and Arambai Tenggol militiamen dressed in commando uniforms attempted to breach the security posts and move towards Pallel. Security forces tried to stop them to maintain peace in the area.
After being stopped by the security forces, some armed men in police uniform opened fire, injuring the Army Major. He was airlifted to the hospital in Limakhong. Around 45 women were injured after security forces fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
Thousands of protesters gathered at Phougakchao Ikhai in Bishnupur district on Wednesday. They all even tried to break through army barricades to reach their homes in Torbung, following which a complete curfew was imposed in all five valley districts of Manipur as a precautionary measure.
