Businessman accused of assault in Mexico has a history of arrest in California for alleged violence
Octavio Cortés, accused of attacking a receptionist in Santa Fe, had a history of arrest in California for alleged violence
The investigation against Octavio Jorge Cortés Jiménez, a businessman accused of allegedly attacking a receptionist in a residential complex in Santa Fe, added a new element after court records were released indicating that he was arrested in California for a case related to alleged violence against a woman with whom he maintained or had maintained a romantic relationship.
This background is known while the Attorney General's Office of Mexico City (FGJCDMX) maintains an open investigation file for the attack that occurred at the Paradox Park Life hotel, an event captured by security cameras and widely disseminated on social networks.
Court record reveals arrest in California
Journalist Jorge García Orozco released a judicial document in which the name of Octavio Jorge Cortés Jiménez appears as a person detained on October 17, 2025 in Sacramento County, California.
According to the registry, the businessman was arrested for the crime identified as “Battery Against Person W/Previous Dating Relationship”, a figure contemplated in US legislation that refers to an alleged attack against a person with whom there was or was a relationship.
The document states that the case was turned over to a Sacramento County court. However, to date there is no public information that indicates a conviction, so the record corresponds only to the record of the arrest and the judicial process.
Video of aggression in Santa Fe sparked the investigation
The controversy surrounding the businessman began after the dissemination of a video in which he allegedly physically attacks a receptionist at the Paradox Park Life hotel, located in the Santa Fe area, in Mexico City.
According to the reconstruction presented by the Ciro Gómez Leyva program in Grupo Formula, the conflict began because the businessman was dissatisfied when he did not receive an immediate response to a message in which he requested support to receive a package.
The images show that he went down to the reception to complain to the worker. During the argument, and upon realizing that he was being recorded, he allegedly hit her, snatched two cell phones from her and continued the attack until he knocked her down.
The video generated a wide reaction on social networks and prompted the intervention of the capital authorities.
CDMX Prosecutor's Office keeps the investigation open
After the images were disseminated, the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) reported that police officers provided assistance to the 40-year-old receptionist, as well as the manager of the establishment, in order to offer advice and support.
The agency specified that the Attorney General's Office of Mexico City already integrates the corresponding investigation folder and coordinates the implementation of protection measures for the victim.
In addition, the SSC instructed the General Directorate of Private Security to initiate a review of the company in charge of providing security services in the complex to verify that it operates in accordance with current regulations.
