Due to their high water content, strawberries are delicate to store and could go bad very quickly if not done correctly. To make them last longer and not get moldy, there is an infallible trick that is also very easy to apply.

Strawberries are characterized by their high nutritional value and their versatility in the kitchen. You can consume them in desserts, salads, yogurts, smoothies and other similar options. For these reasons, it is essential to make the most of them.

However, when not stored properly, even shortly after purchase they could become contaminated with mold and white spots, requiring them to be discarded.

How to prevent strawberries from getting damaged and last longer

The first step is to thoroughly inspect the strawberries you purchased. Those that you notice bruised or with soft areas should be separated from the fresh ones.

And if some have signs of mold, throw them away immediately. It is important that you pay attention to this last detail because the fungi spread quickly and accelerate the decomposition of the rest of the strawberries.

Next, wash the strawberries you want to preserve with water only, remove the stem from each one and dry them with a clean cloth or kitchen paper. The trick is to remove all surface moisture before storing them.

Now store the strawberries in an airtight container with absorbent paper or a napkin at the bottom. This will prevent the fruit from becoming moist as the days go by, preventing mold from appearing. The idea is that they last in good condition for approximately a week.

Another convenient option is to freeze them, if you are not going to consume the strawberries soon. For this you must repeat the procedure of selecting them, washing them, removing the stem, drying them and storing them in a container suitable for the freezer or a bag.

According to the Spanish Nutrition Foundation, strawberries are excellent for the normal functioning of the immune system, thanks to their high content of vitamin C. They are also rich in fiber, which promotes intestinal transit, antioxidants and potassium.
