National Herald Case: Enforcement Directorate asks Sonia Gandhi to appear on July 21

National Herald Case|ED Summons Sonia Gandhi| The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has asked Congress President Sonia Gandhi to appear before the agency on July 21 for questioning in the money laundering case related to the National Herald newspaper. Officials gave this information on Monday.
Sonia was called for questioning on June 23
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had issued a second summon to Sonia Gandhi to appear on June 23, but the 75-year-old Congress leader could not appear on that date as she was hospitalized due to COVID-19 and lung infection. After being admitted, doctors advised him to take rest at home.
Sonia had made this request to ED
Officials said that Sonia Gandhi had requested to postpone the summons for four weeks. Therefore, he has been asked to appear before the agency on July 21. The interim national president of the Congress was earlier issued a notice to appear on June 8, but was summoned for June 23 after being found infected with the coronavirus.
Rahul Gandhi was questioned for more than 50 hours
The ED had questioned Sonia Gandhi's son and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in this case for more than 50 hours in several sessions spanning five days. During the interrogation of Rahul Gandhi, Congress leaders had demonstrated across the country.
Nehru started the National Herald newspaper
It is noteworthy that National Herald is a news paper. It was started by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1938. Associated Journals Limited (AJL) was entrusted with the responsibility of its operation. Initially, it was dominated by the Congress and the people of the Gandhi family. In the year 2008, the newspaper was closed due to losses. Then gave a loan of Rs 90 crore to AJL from Congress fund.
Gandhi family acquired property worth 90.25 crores by giving 50 lakhs
After this, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi formed the Young Indian Company. In return for the loan given by Young Indian to AJL, he got 99 per cent shares in the company. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi hold 38-38 per cent stake in Young Indian Company. Congress leaders Motilal Bora and Oscar Fernandes held the remaining 24 percent. Subramanian Swamy alleged that the Gandhi family acquired assets worth Rs 90.25 crore of Young Indian Pvt Ltd by paying just Rs 50 lakh.
