Track and field legend PT Usha has been elected the first woman president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), marking the beginning of a new era in Indian sports administration. PT Usha recently filed nomination for the post of IOA President. She was the only contender to file nomination for this post. In such a situation, 58-year-old PT Usha has been elected as the new President of IOA on Saturday.

The election of 58-year-old PT Usha, who won multiple medals at the Asian Games and finished fourth in the 400m hurdles at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, also ended the crisis caused by factional politics in the Indian Olympic Association. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) had threatened to suspend the IOA if it did not hold elections this month. These elections were to be held in December 2021.

PT Usha's selection for this big post was decided only last month. Because, she was the only candidate to file nomination for the post of President. No one opposed Usha. PT Usha was being seen as a BJP candidate. She is the first Olympian and the first international medalist to become the president in the 95-year history of the IOA. With this one more achievement has been added to his achievements.
