The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea seeking direction to the Center in the Joshimath landslide case. The Court granted liberty to the petitioner that he can approach the Uttarakhand High Court and demand that the disaster be declared a 'National Disaster'. 

Along with this, the Supreme Court also rejected the demand of the Center to provide relief to the affected people in Joshimath. Also refused to interfere in the matter. 

A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha and Justice JB Pardiwala granted liberty to petitioner Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati to file the petition in the Uttarakhand High Court. 

Let us tell you that the petitioner Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, while appealing in the apex court, said that there is an urgent need for hearing in the matter and this crisis should be declared a national calamity. On which the bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha had given the date of Tuesday i.e. today, but now the court has refused an immediate hearing.

The petitioner said that whatever is happening in Joshimath today is happening due to mining, construction of big projects and the blasts being carried out for the same. This is a sign of great disaster. It is said that landslides have been happening in the city for a long time. People have been raising their voice about this but it was not taken seriously by the government. Today a historical, mythological and cultural city and the people living there are bearing the brunt of this. The number of unsafe buildings in Joshimath city is continuously increasing. So far hundreds of buildings have been identified.
