The incident happened on Monday, when a trailer truck laden with sand and stones suddenly overturned and hit a car coming from the other side on the busy Phagwara-Chandigarh national highway near Behram, police said. Trailer trucks are generally used to transport goods and materials. Police said that a couple from Batala and their 25-year-old son died in this accident. Police said that as the trailer was turning, it lost its balance and overturned on the car. He said that another car was also partially damaged due to the fall of the trailer on one side.

Gurdial Singh, in-charge of Behram police station, said that the couple and their son, who were above 45 years of age, died in the accident. Singh said that the trailer truck driver has been arrested for speeding and negligent driving.
