SC: Justice Bela M Trivedi recuses himself from the Bilkis Bano case, the issue of the release of the convicts
Supreme Court judge Justice Bela M Trivedi has recused herself from the Bilkis Bano case.
Supreme Court judge Justice Bela M Trivedi has recused herself from hearing a plea by Gujarat riots victim Bilkis Bano challenging the premature release of 11 convicts in the rape and murder case.
As soon as the hearing of the case began on Tuesday before a bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and Justice Bela M Trivedi, Justice Rastogi said that his sister Justice Trivedi did not want to hear the matter. A bench headed by Justice Rastogi ordered the matter to be listed before a bench comprising neither of the judges. However, the bench did not give any reason for recusing from Justice Trivedi's case.
Let me tell you, Bilkis Bano has also filed a separate petition in the Supreme Court, in which she has sought review of the order dated May 13, 2022 of the apex court on the petition of a convict. In its order, the court had asked the Gujarat government to consider the petition for premature release of the convicts in terms of a policy dated July 9, 1992.
