The case has caught fire after the video of a minor being raped and murdered and policemen dragging the dead body in Kaliyaganj area of North Dinajpur district of West Bengal went viral. Under the leadership of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, President Priyank Kanungo, other representatives of the commission also met the family of the deceased. On Sunday, the state spokesperson of BJP lashed out at TMC and Mamta government regarding this. Accusing the Mamta government, he said that the state government has completely failed to stop the atrocities against women and children. When the people of Kaliyaganj agitated against the brutal murder of the girl, the police thrashed them and took possession of the body in the most insensitive manner, hurting the sentiments of the people.

The spokesperson said that instead of working in tandem with the NCPCR, the WBCPCR is working at the behest of the TMC government. At the behest of the state government, they are objecting to the visit of the central panel. He further said that in view of the present circumstances, justice to the victims can be delivered only by the Central Children's Commission. Also, the state should not politicize the matter. 

The Trinamool Congress has also hit back at the BJP's attack. TMC state spokesperson Kunal Ghosh accused the NCPCR of meeting the family members of the deceased at the behest of the BJP. He said the NCPCR chief visited there for political reasons. Accusing the BJP, Kunal Ghosh said that the police is probing the incident, but before that the BJP is trying to incite violence. BJP leaders are visiting the area and inciting people by spreading rumours. 

There is peace in Kaliaganj for the time being amid the imposition of Section 144 in the area and the deployment of a large number of police forces. The police have arrested six people in connection with the violence and clash with the police after the body of the deceased was recovered. Also, based on the complaint filed by the mother of the deceased, the police have started investigation by registering a case under IPC section 302 (murder) and sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
