Three people have died in the latest cases of ongoing violence in Manipur, following which the Kuki community blocked parts of the National Highway. Three people, including an elderly woman, were killed and two others were injured in the latest incidents of violence. However, the culprit is yet to be identified.

The Saday Hills Committee of the Committee on Tribal Unit (COTU) has again blocked a 13-km stretch of National Highway 2 in Kangpokpi district. The tribal organization claimed that some gunmen in army uniform attacked Khoken, a Kuki-dominated village on the border connecting Kangpokpi and Imphal districts.

COTU spokesman Rev K Sitho said- 'After the attack in Khoken village, it was decided to re-implement the economic blockade. It will remain for an indefinite period at the moment.

The COTU decided to temporarily suspend the blockade for seven days from June 5 following Home Minister Amit Shah's appeal to lift the blockade on NH2 to ensure supply of essential commodities to Manipur.

The Kuki group had issued a statement saying that traffic on the highway has been allowed with escort of central forces from 10 am to 2 pm only for the supply of essential commodities and medical supplies.

So far 105 people have died and around 300 have been injured in the Manipur violence that began on May 3. About 40,000 people have been evacuated from the violence-hit areas to safer places.
