'Orange alert' issued for three districts of Kerala
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an 'Orange Alert' for three southern districts of Kerala indicating heavy rainfall ranging from six to 20 cm. The department said in a statement that heavy rainfall (12-20 cm in 24 hours) is very likely at some places in Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts. Similarly, heavy rainfall is expected in Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts as well as Kottayam district on Friday, he said. Due to the formation of a cyclonic circulation over South Tamil Nadu and its adjoining region, rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at most places during the next five days, the statement said. He said that the northeast monsoon is active over Kerala and in the last 24 hours, it has rained at most places in Kerala and at few places in Lakshadweep.
