Responding to the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that 700 people were killed in Manipur violence in 1993. At that time there was a Congress party government at the center. The opposition had said that the PM should answer, the Home Minister should answer. Rajesh Pilot, Minister of State for Home in the then Narasimha Rao government, had replied on Manipur. Now the opposition is talking to Prime Minister Modi to answer.

Let us tell you that on 8 April 1992, the Congress government was formed in Manipur. Rajkumar Dorendra Singh was made the Chief Minister. Then there was violence. At that time Narasimha Rao was the Prime Minister of the country. He recommended President's rule in the state on the advice of his cabinet. For the ninth time, from 31 December 1993 to 13 December 1994, President's rule was imposed for 347 days.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that a unified command has been created in Manipur for coordination between all security forces. Adequate number of security forces are deployed. 98 percent schools have opened in the valley. Camps are running in two percent of the schools. Efforts are underway to establish a peace process. The IB director reviews the situation there on a daily basis. The Union Home Secretary is talking about the situation in Manipur once in two days. As Shah, I am also regularly taking information from the Unified Command on Manipur. Ten kilometers of fencing has been completed on the Myanmar border in 2022. Work is underway in an area of 60 km. Apart from this, the survey of fencing is going on in 600 kilometer long area.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had called an all-party meeting on the issue of Manipur on 24 June. The meeting was preceded by a sharp reaction from the Congress party. The Congress party had said that this meeting is being held very late. If talks with the people of Manipur are attempted sitting in Delhi, it will not show any seriousness. Rahul Gandhi had said that this meeting is being called when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a foreign trip. Meaning this meeting was not important for the PM. Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi also released a video message on Wednesday. In this message, he appealed to the people of Manipur to maintain peace and harmony.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, 22 years ago on June 18, 2001 there was violence in Manipur. People's houses and public property were set on fire. Then Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister of the country. Opposition parties sought an appointment with Vajpayee. Atal Bihari Vajpayee called an all-party meeting only after six days. Not only this, he appealed for peace to the people of Manipur. According to Jairam Ramesh, in view of the violence taking place in Manipur this time, ten parties including the Congress had sought an appointment before the start of the Prime Minister's foreign trip. PM Modi did not give him time. In the all-party meeting chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah, several opposition parties, including the Congress, urged Chief Minister N. Biren Singh was sacked and demanded imposition of President's rule in Manipur.

President's rule was imposed for the first time in Manipur from 19 January 1967 to 19 March 1967 i.e. 66 days. At that time the first election to the Manipur Union Territory Legislative Assembly was to be held.

For the second time, from 25 October 1967 to 18 February 1968, President's rule was imposed for 116 days. Then there was a political crisis in Manipur. After that no party had a clear majority.

For the third time, President's rule was imposed in the state from 17 October 1969 to 22 March 1972 for two years and 157 days. At that time there was violence during the demand for full statehood. Law and order had completely broken down.

President's rule was imposed for the fourth time from 28 March 1973 to 3 March 1974. At that time the opposition had such a meager majority that it could not form a stable government.

President's rule was imposed for the fifth time from 16 May 1977 to 28 June 1977 for 43 days. The government had fallen due to defection.

For the sixth time, President's rule was imposed for 60 days from 14 November 1979 to 13 January 1980. Political reasons were responsible at that time. Dissatisfaction with the Janata Party government, and allegations of corruption, led to the government's dismissal.The assembly was dissolved.

President's rule was imposed for the seventh time from 28 February 1981 to 18 June 1981. Even then, due to political reasons, a permanent government could not be formed in the state.

For the eighth time, from 7 January 1992 to 7 April 1992, President's rule was imposed for 91 days. At that time the coalition government had fallen due to defection.

For the ninth time, from 31 December 1993 to 13 December 1994, President's rule was imposed for 347 days. Then the reason for this was violence between the Naga and Kuki communities. The violence lasted for a long time, in which hundreds of people were killed.

For the tenth time, from 2 June 2001 to 6 March 2002, President's rule was imposed for 277 days. At that time the government had lost majority.
