The Trump administration revokes the security clearances of 37 officials
Tulsi Gabbard has stripped the security clearances of 37 intelligence officials, including many tied to Biden
Tulsi Gabbard, the director of national intelligence, said Tuesday in a memo published on X that the Trump administration will revoke the security clearances of 37 current and former national security officials.
Gabbard accused the named officials in the memo of having engaged in the “politicization or instrumentalization of intelligence” to advance personal or partisan goals, of failing to protect classified information, of failing to adhere to professional standards of analysis, and of other “prejudicial” conduct that she did not describe.
“Being entrusted with a security clearance is a privilege, not a right. Those in the Intelligence Community who betray their oath to the Constitution and put their own interests above those of the American people have violated the sacred trust they swore to uphold. In doing so, they undermine our national security, the safety and security of the American people, and the founding principles of our democratic republic,” Gabbard wrote in X.
The memo offered no evidence to support the allegations, but the list drew immediate criticism that the Trump administration was politicizing security clearances.
Those on the list include several Biden administration officials.
The list also eliminates clearances for those who have spoken to the media about several Trump administration decisions.
Gabbard, without presenting evidence, accused the individuals on the list of politicizing or leaking intelligence, or of “committing serious intentional violations of industry standards” and claimed that the action was taken at the direction of President Trump.
