Antifa in the Mira: Trump analyzes declaring it organization terrorist after crime of Charlie Kirk
Antifa is seen as an organized movement that threatens fundamental values ??in the United States
President Donald Trump said this Monday that he does not rule out declaring the far-left movement Antifa as a terrorist organization for its “partial responsibility” in the murder of ultraconservative activist Charlie Kirk, as a movement of the 'radical left'.
"It is something that I would do, yes, if I had the support of the people that are here," Trump said when being Asked if he plans to declare the movement a “domestic terrorist organization.”
“I think I would start with (Attorney General) Pam (Bondi). If I may, I would 100% do it, and others as well, by the way. But Antifa is terrible anyway,” Trump warned.
Antifa is a nationwide network of activists who define themselves as anarchists, anti-capitalists, or communists, which Donald Trump has repeatedly accused of inciting violence, including the riots that followed the death of George Floyd in 2020, during his first term, as a case of police brutality that shocked the country and sparked violent protests.
Trump has since repeatedly called Antifa a “terrorist organization” and has even said he wants to designate the movement as a terrorist group, although experts have stressed the legal difficulty of sanctioning such a decentralized group.
Following the murder of Charlie Kirk, Trump himself, Vice President JD Vance and other members of the Cabinet have accused “left-wing extremism” as one of those responsible for Kirk’s murder, which occurred on September 10 on a university campus in Utah.
Authorities arrested Tyler Robinson, 22, as the prime suspect in the crime and have assured that the man had recently become “politicized” and had developed a strong rejection of the ultraconservative ideas promoted by Kirk in his forums with students.
The official proposal to punish Antifa as a terrorist group
However,The formal proposal to declare Antifa a terrorist organization came from Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna last Friday. Her goal, she said, is to toughen penalties as much as possible against individuals or organizations that commit serious crimes related to this movement, as she considered that this crime represents a point of no return in the escalation of political violence in the United States. According to the congresswoman, Antifa is an organized network that functions as a "hate movement" fueled by radical leftist thought, which attacks essential pillars of American society such as Christianity, patriotism, and family. In addition, it attacks social causes and minorities as instruments for political and economic ends.
Its proposal requests the death penalty for those who commit especially serious crimes based on this ideology, especially if they threaten life or fundamental freedoms:
"There must be exemplary punishments. There must be a forceful response to stop this threat and a policy of 'zero tolerance'."
Antifa's controversial methods
Antifa has been harshly criticized for applying non-violent methods such as poster and flyer campaigns, mutual aid, speeches, protest marches and community organizing.
Other supporters have carried out tactics such as digital activism, and even possible crimes such as: doxing, harassment, physical violence and damage to property. However, they claim they are trying to combat far-right extremists, including neo-Nazis and white supremacists. According to terrorism experts Colin Clarke and Michael Kenney, many Antifa members view Trump as a fascist demagogue who threatens the very existence of America's pluralistic and multiracial democracy. They also accuse supporters of the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement of being fascists.especially if they threaten life or fundamental freedoms:
