Official cause of death of “The Ring” star Daveigh Chase revealed
The actress known for her role in “The Ring” died on June 16 at the age of 35 and fought against addictions.
The actress' mother, Cathy Chase, shared heartbreaking details about her daughter's struggle with addiction, which began after a motorcycle accident around 2016. According to Cathy, Daveigh was prescribed oxycodone and other pain relievers for a back injury, which triggered her drug dependency.
"She looked for drugs and hung out with bad company. I never kicked my daughter out of the house. She wanted freedom and those people got her hooked on drugs. That was the beginning," Cathy told the Daily Mail. The actress ended up living on the streets of Los Angeles, in the Skid Row area, and had several encounters with the law, including charges for drug possession.
The last time Cathy saw her daughter in person was in October 2019, when she visited her in jail. "She was completely out of it, like she had lost her mind. I honestly thought something was wrong with her. My daughter had never been diagnosed with any mental health problem, other than post-traumatic stress disorder. "But the drugs took over," she said.
Upon her release, Daveigh returned to the streets and her mother lost contact with her. In the days before her death, Roy Hernández, who identified himself as her boyfriend, created a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds.
In it, she explained that Daveigh had been diagnosed with meningitis and serious blood infections that led her to a septic state, and that doctors had given her a terminal prognosis.
However, the campaign generated controversy. Daveigh's former manager, John Ryan Jr., told TMZ that neither her family nor close friends knew Hernandez, and that the actress had enough funds in a SAG account to cover her expenses.
Ryan urged the public not to donate until the organizer's identity was verified. Hernández responded by denying any illegitimacy and stating that the funds would be used to give a “proper memorial” to the actress.
A complicated personal life
Despite his initial success, his personal life was overshadowed by addiction. The actress's former manager, John Ryan Jr., mentioned that Daveigh had been to rehab centers and struggled more with alcohol than hard drugs, stating that she was sober when he lost contact with her in late 2015.
Daveigh's mother, who identified her at the hospital after her death, expressed her deep grief and sense of having failed her. “I will live forever with the feeling of having failed him,” Cathy confessed.
