David Beckham receives prestigious award in the United Kingdom
Actor Gary Oldman and musician Roger Daltrey were also honored.

Former Los Angeles Galaxy and Real Madrid star David Beckham has been officially appointed a Knight of the British Empire (KBE) by King Charles III. The former footballer and former England captain, who received the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2003, was included in the traditional honors list published this Friday, on the eve of the parade marking the monarch's official birthday.
"I grew up in East London with very patriotic and proud British parents and grandparents, and I never imagined I would receive this honor," Beckham said, according to statements reported by the British news agency PA. The recognition comes shortly after the businessman and model turned 50 on May 2.
Beckham said that leading the national team was the greatest pride of his career: "Literally a childhood dream come true," he said. He also recalled his work off the field, collaborating with various organizations and social causes.
"I am extremely lucky to be able to do the work that I do and I am grateful to be recognized for work that gives me great satisfaction," he added. "It will take a while for this news to sink in, but I am immensely proud and it's a very emotional moment to share with my family." Art, music, and social commitment were also recognized. Along with Beckham, other British figures were honored in this latest round of awards. Among them was 67-year-old actor Gary Oldman, known for his role as Sirius Black in the Harry Potter series, who was recognized for his contributions to theater and film. Also inducted was singer Roger Daltrey, lead singer and co-founder of The Who, for his musical career and his work leading the Teenage Cancer Foundation since 2000.
“It’s a dream come true, but it’s especially true because the foundation means so much to me,” Daltrey was also quoted as saying by PA.
The top honor was awarded to sculptor Antony Gormley, who was made a Companion of Honor for his contributions to contemporary art – a recognition reserved for only 65 people at a time.
