Julio Cesar Chavez defends his son after arrest: An injustice
The Mexican Grand Champion declared that nothing that is being said about Chavez Jr. is true and he trusts that all this confusion will be resolved soon

Julio Cesar Chavez defended his son, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., after he was arrested by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for ties to the Cartel of Sinaloa and assured that it is an injustice.
In statements to the press, the Great Mexican Champion declared that nothing that is being said about Chavez Jr. is true and he trusts that all this confusion will be resolved soon.
“Of course I am devastated because what is happening to my son feels unjust to me. But we have to let the authorities act, we are calm. Thank God there is nothing of all that stuff, that shit that they say is involving him. Of course it hurts me (what is happening), but none of that is true. I can't talk right now, that's what they told me. Don't make me say things that I don't... we are going to let the authorities act, there is nothing to fear,” he said.
“My son has had his mistakes, when he was not well he said many things, he said many things that everyone knows because he was sick. We are friends with everyone, you know that, my son was born in Culiacan, we know everyone, bad and good and we have lived with everyone, but from there to my son being involved in those things... the truth is I'd put my hands in the fire for my son, everyone knows, my son was 4 years old in the United States and there's nothing to fear," he added.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was detained by ICE on July 2 in Los Angeles for having an irregular immigration status, since his B2 tourist visa expired in 2024. The Mexican submitted an application to obtain permanent residency in the United States because he married Frida Munoz, a US citizen who according to authorities is linked to the Sinaloa Cartel because she was in a relationship with the deceased son of Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman.
Shortly after, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that Chavez Jr. had an arrest warrant since March 2023 issued by the Attorney General's Office (FGR) in Mexico for organized crime and arms trafficking. Reason why they were processing his deportation.
Just a week ago Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. lost to Jake Paul by unanimous decision. The boxer had had problems with addiction and with the justice system in Los Angeles for possession of a ghost gun. After entering rehabilitation and having the charges dismissed, Junior returned to the ring with a victory over Uriah Hall in 2024.
Now the son of the Mexican Grand Champion, 38 years old, -who has a professional record of 54 wins (34 by knockout), 7 losses and a draw- again faces problems with the law.
