San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Sean Hjelle is being investigated for abuse allegations made by his wife, Caroline Hjelle, who posted a video on the social network TikTok denouncing alleged abuse and abandonment.

“When my MLB husband leaves us on Mother's Day a week after I finally found out about his infidelities and I stopped putting up with his abuse… so I've been raising two boys on my own,” Caroline wrote in the post, accompanied by images with her children.

The San Francisco Giants organization issued a statement on Saturday acknowledging that it is aware of these serious allegations and assuring that the investigation is in the hands of Major League Baseball.

The team's manager, Bob Melvin, briefly addressed the issue before the game against the Boston Red Sox: Obviously we are aware. He told me about it last night. We spoke with MLB and, at this point, it is under their jurisdiction, so I cannot comment further.

Sean Hjelle remains active on San Francisco's roster

Despite the controversy, Hjelle remains available to pitch, as confirmed by Melvin. In fact, the right-hander saw action in Friday's game against Boston, where he took the loss after allowing a tiebreaking home run in the sixth inning.

So far this season, Hjelle has a 1-1 record and a 4.66 ERA in six appearances.

To date, MLB has not issued an official statement regarding the progress of the investigation or any potential disciplinary action.

However, cases of this nature are typically handled under the joint policy protocol on domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse established by the league and the players' association.
