Regis Prograis doubts Crawford can beat Canelo
Regis Prograis believes moving up two weight classes will hurt Terence Crawford performance and predicts Canelo Alvarez will completely dominate him
Regis Prograis doubts Terence Crawford can beat Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and take the undisputed super middleweight championship from him on September 13 in Las Vegas.
In an interview with MillCity Boxing, Programs believes moving up two weight classes will affect Crawford's in-ring performance and therefore predicts Canelo Alvarez will completely dominate him.
I've always thought highly of Crawford, but you're fighting someone that good and that big at the same time. Two weight classes. It's hard for me to say Bud is going to win. I'm a Crawford fan. I know Crawford probably trained with heavyweights. But it's always different when you're facing someone who can take your punches, and it depends on how well Crawford can take Canelo's punches. Jermell (Charlo) looked a lot bigger than Canelo, but then they fought, and you could see the difference. "You could see the size difference," he said.
"It's different when you weigh in with someone. Jermell was bigger (than Canelo). It's a big difference when you're in there with that person. We'll see. Right now, Crawford looks the same as Canelo. Physically, he looks the same. It looks like Crawford is making weight. When you step into the ring, it's always different. Canelo is short and stocky. His neck is very forward. Canelo has the build of a fighter, he added.
According to some of the experts' predictions, Terence Crawford will be at a disadvantage due to his weight and will not be able to defeat the Mexican, but others believe that size will not be an issue, since the American has the necessary skills to beat the 168-pound champion on his own turf.
After the fight with Cuban William Scull, where the Mexican fighter was criticized for his lackluster performance, many experts in the sport have changed their minds and see Bud with real opportunities to win because they think the Guadalajara native is in decline.
If the American wins, he would become a three-time undisputed champion in different weight classes and would make history in the sport while Canelo Alvarez could end Crawford's undefeated record and send him into retirement.
Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, 34, became undisputed champion for the second time at super middleweight after defeating William Scull and now has a record of 63 wins (39 by knockout), two losses and two draws in his professional career.
For his part, Terence Crawford, 38, became champion of four different divisions by defeating Israil Madrimov and remains one of the best pound for pound. The undisputed two-time American champion now has 41 wins, 31 of them by knockout.
