André-Pierre Gignac points to MLS
The French striker would be close to leaving the UANL Tigres and Mexican soccer. Gignac would meet with Antoine Griezmann in the United States
André-Pierre Gignac became a Mexican soccer legend. The former Marseille forward has left his mark with the UANL Tigres. However, his cycle in Mexico seems to have ended. Major League Soccer would be his next destination.
The 40-year-old forward has lost regularity in Mexican soccer. André-Pierre Gignac is adding fewer and fewer minutes with the UANL Tigres. The Frenchman's process in the feline team would have come to an end, regardless of what happens in the Concacaf Champions League.
"After years marking an era in Liga MX, André-Pierre Gignac would aim for a new challenge outside of Mexican soccer. His destiny would be in the MLS, specifically with Orlando City," the Multimedios Deportes portal reported.
The portal reported that the French forward would be close to reaching an agreement with the American institution. If this first approach were to take place, André-Pierre Gignac would share a dressing room with Antoine Griezmann, a former Atlético de Madrid player who will join the club after the 2026 World Cup.
“Gignac is very close to closing his arrival at Orlando City (…) He also pointed out that the Frenchman would not continue with the cats, even if they lift the Champions Cup next Saturday in Toluca,” complements the report that was first announced by Diego Armando Medina.
Gignac in Tigres de la UANL
In July 2015, André-Pierre Gignac left Marseille to take on his first adventure in Mexico with the Tigres de la UANL jersey. Since then, the French scorer has participated in 444 games with the feline team. Gignac maintains a record of 222 goals scored and 57 assists conceded.
Gignac has won 5 Liga MX titles (Apertura 2015, Apertura 2016, Apertura 2017, Clausura 2019 and Clausura 2023), 4 Champion of Champions (Edition 2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2017-2018 and 2022-2023), 2 Champions Cup (2018 and 2023) and 1 Concacaf Champions League (2020).
The French forward will seek his second Concachampions this Saturday, May 30. The UANL Tigres will visit the Toluca Red Devils at the Nemesio Diez Stadium. This trophy would be the perfect way to conclude Gignac's cycle with the Tigers.
