Checo Perez believes that Max Verstappen will be the F1 champion in 2025
Checo Perez regretted not being a driver in the Mexican Grand Prix this year, but is happy to return next year
Checo Perez sees his former teammate Max Verstappen as the champion of the 2025 Formula 1 season.
The Mexican driver believes that the Dutch driver's consistency will be key to taking the title this season.
“I think that "because of the consistency he's always shown, Max has a very good chance of winning the championship, he's undoubtedly the driver who deserves it the most," said 'Checo' about Verstappen, who is in third place in the drivers' championship this F1 season.
Perez, who left the Red Bull team at the end of 2024, spoke at an event prior to the tenth edition of the Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix which will take place this weekend at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
The man considered the best Mexican driver in history acknowledged that he will miss being on the track, but takes comfort in the fact that next year he will return as one of the drivers for the new Cadillac team to race his fifteenth season in this series.
“It's going to be different because I'm not going to race, but it will be incredible to see this tenth year away from the track. It's going to be a beautiful race, it's strange to be here and not race, but I'll watch it from home. It will only be this year, the I’ll be back soon,” he said.
Checo Perez excited about his opportunity with Cadillac
Perez, who has accumulated 39 podiums throughout his career, was excited about what he said will be his last adventure with Cadillac in F1.
“I want to enjoy my return in this last stage of my career, I’m very excited; we already have everything ready, even the color of the helmet I’m going to use; it’s going to be black,” he explained.
The driver highlighted the support he has had from his new team, unlike what he experienced in his last years at Red Bull with Christian Horner, former team principal of that team.
“It’s always good to have a team that listens to you and values ??you, that’s what every driver wants to have. Now I’m involved in a lot of work with the simulator, we’re going to have some tests in November with mechanics and engineers for the start in January,” he explained.
