After spending 14 months in pretrial detention for a sexual assault case, Dani Alves is once again linked to the world of football. The Brazilian footballer has become the majority shareholder of Sporting Clube de Sao Joao de Ver. Dani Alves could return to playing after a couple of years of inactivity. Sporting Clube de Sao Joao de Ver is a club in Portugal's Liga 3. The former FC Barcelona player has reportedly acquired 50% ownership of the club. Sources detail that the remaining 50% will be paid at the end of the 2025/2026 season. "In a moment that will forever be etched in the club's memory, we officially announce the addition of Daniel Alves as co-owner of SC Sao Joao de Ver SAD. A name that boasts one of the most victorious trajectories in world football now intersects with a club with deep roots, built on hard work, resilience, and passion," the club wrote in its presentation. Reports add that Dani Alves has high hopes of wearing the Sporting Clube de Sao Joao de Ver jersey to play a few matches. The report indicates that the Brazilian would soon like to sign a contract that would allow him to play, at least, until the end of the season. Dani Alves has been away from the pitch since January 2023. The South American full-back was accused and imprisoned in Spain for a sexual assault case. Alves spent 14 months in pretrial detention and was then released on March 25, 2024. Alves had to pay bail. The High Court of Justice of Catalonia argued a lack of evidence, overturned the sentence, and the footballer was also acquitted. Last stint with Pumas UNAM: In the 2022/2023 season, Dani Alves played his last minutes as a professional footballer. The Brazilian full-back played that season with Pumas UNAM. Alves only played 13 matches between the Apertura and Clausura tournaments. The South American full-back contributed 5 assists for the university team.
