Diego Luna receives MLS award for his support to the local community
The midfielder has shone on and off the field, and for the latter, he was recognized with the 2025 Audi Goals Drive Progress Impact Award
Diego Luna, star of Real Salt Lake, has been named the winner of the 2025 Audi Goals Drive Progress Impact Award, a recognition of MLS players who are dedicated to promoting equity, inclusion, and improving the lives of communities in the United States and Canada.
Beyond his talent on the Throughout his career, Luna has distinguished himself through his commitment to the community. Recognized as Utah's Male Professional Athlete of the Year, he works with schools, youth soccer clubs, and after-school programs in the Salt Lake region, promoting mental health and seeking help through therapy. To celebrate his impact, the car brand sponsoring the award will contribute $150,000 to Intermountain Primary Children's Hospital, supporting its Primary Promise program, a cause close to Luna's heart focused on the health and future of children. The official presentation will take place during the MLS Cup on December 6. “Receiving the 2025 Audi Goals Drive Progress Impact Award is a tremendous honor, and being a voice and advocate for positive change is and will continue to be an important part of my life,” Luna said from the U.S. Men's National Team training camp. “The state of Utah has provided my family and me with incredible opportunities, and we want to do everything we can to give back to the community that has truly welcomed me and shown me nothing but kindness since I arrived here. Not only are we at a crucial moment for the continued growth of soccer in North America, but this also represents an opportunity to continue driving positive change across the sport and our league, and I feel privileged to be a part of these impactful efforts.” In MLS, Luna has made his mark in four seasons. He was selected as an All-Star in 2024 and 2025, becoming the first Real Salt Lake player to receive this recognition consecutively in a decade. He was also named the 2024 MLS Young Player of the Year and leads the team in scoring in 2025, helping Real Salt Lake reach five consecutive playoff seasons.the longest active streak in the Western Conference.
With the United States national team, Luna has also excelled. He was a key player in the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup and was named to the tournament's Best XI, playing in 16 of 17 matches under Mauricio Pochettino. The other finalists for the 2025 Audi Goals Drive Progress Impact Award were Brad Stuver of Austin FC and Ryan Hollingshead of LAFC, selected by a committee comprised of players, coaches, MLS staff, and media representatives. “Not only is Diego Luna a star in our league, but his dedication to giving back to his community is unparalleled, and the work done through the Audi Goals Drive Progress Initiative speaks volumes about great athletes who are heroes both on and off the field,” said Jen Cramer, MLS Executive Vice President of Partnership Marketing. “We are incredibly proud of this year’s finalists for the amazing work they do to uplift their communities, and it has been an honor to see the positive impact our players have had through their efforts,” she concluded.
