The state of Michoacan is one of the most violent regions in Mexico, where organized crime groups resort to terrorist tactics such as the use of drones with explosives and landmines to attack rivals or security forces.

It is for this reason that several members of the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) of Michoacan, assigned to the Specialized Group on Explosive Devices and Hazardous Materials, will receive training from the FBI. This training program will last two weeks, during which officers will learn about specialized handling and deactivation of explosive devices. They will participate in theoretical and practical exercises focused on the detection, neutralization, and control of explosives, as well as the strategic use of drones and anti-drone systems to reinforce security at mass events. According to a statement issued by the state SSP, the objective of this training is to maintain an elite team specializing in the deactivation of explosive devices in Michoacan. “This bilateral work with the United States Embassy, ????through the FBI, has allowed for the exchange of information and training between both security agencies,” the agency stated. "The mission is to keep the Civil Guard's specialized team at the forefront; likewise, "It is analyzing the acquisition of new technological tools for the safety of police officers and the public," the statement adds. According to the Specialized Group on Explosive Devices and Hazardous Materials, from June 2023 to February 2025, more than 3,000 grenades and explosive devices have been seized, including mines and devices modified to be launched by drones. This is not the first time that Mexican state and federal forces have been trained in the handling of explosives. Since last May it began training on the subject as part of the preparations to ensure well-being during the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.
