Selection of World-Class Stadiums for Los Angeles 2028
The LA28 organization worked in conjunction with Soccer United Marketing (SUM), the commercial arm of Major League Soccer (MLS), to evaluate stadiums across the country against the highest international standards.
This approach reaffirms LA28's commitment to inclusive, sustainable, and memorable Games, leveraging existing world-class venues.
Progressive Schedule and Athlete Wellbeing
Due to the wide geographical spread of the Olympic football tournament, LA28 designed a match schedule that will allow for a progressive advance from east to west, reducing unnecessary travel as the competition progresses.
In addition, the International Olympic Committee and LA28 are exploring extending the tournament schedule, allowing some preliminary matches to be played before the Opening Ceremony, with the aim of improving the players' physical recovery.
The official schedule for the men's and women's tournaments, as well as the distribution of matches by stadium, will be announced before the first ticket sale in April 2026.

Historic: More women's than men's teams in Olympic football
For the first time in Olympic history, the women's football tournament will feature more teams than the men's. The women's competition will expand to 16 teams, while the men's will be limited to 12.
With this decision, LA28 will set a historic precedent, becoming the first Olympic Games where all team sports will have at least the same number of women's and men's teams, promoting gender equality and the growth of women's football globally.
