Libertadores Final: Palmeiras and Flamengo will seek to become the great monarch of South America
This November 28th, Palmeiras and Flamengo will face off at the Alejandro Villanueva Stadium in Peru. Both teams are repeating the 2021 final, which Palmeiras won.
Palmeiras completed their final training session this Friday before the Copa Libertadores final against Flamengo in Lima.
The Verdao trained at the Alejandro Villanueva Stadium, the home of Alianza Lima, in the populous district of La Victoria, where the injured Paulinho and Lucas Evangelista did not participate, but goalkeeper Weverton did, appearing on the field without the hand protection he had worn in previous sessions due to a fracture. Weverton arrived at the Alianza stadium facilities a little after his teammates, having participated alongside the coach, the Portuguese Abel Ferreira, in the pre-final press conference. However, barring any surprises, Carlos Miguel remains the most likely to start in goal for Palmeiras, due to the consistency and match fitness he has acquired in recent weeks. Thus, the possible starting eleven that Ferreira fields for the final could be: Carlos Miguel; Khellven, Gustavo Gomez, Murilo, Joaquin Piquerez; Allan, Andreas Pereira, and Raphael Veiga; Felipe Anderson (or Sosa), Jose Manuel 'Flaco' Lopez, and Vitor Roque.
For Palmeiras, this is their third Copa Libertadores final in the last five years, having won the title on the two previous occasions, both in 2020 against Santos and in 2021 against Flamengo (2-1), in a match played at the Centenario Stadium in Montevideo.
The new clash between Palmeiras and Flamengo will take place this time at the Monumental Stadium in Lima, where the Rio de Janeiro team already won the 2019 final, defeating Argentina's River Plate 2-1 with two goals in the final minutes from Gabriel Barbosa 'Gabigol'.
The stadium also holds good memories for Verdao, as they thrashed Universitario de Deportes 4-0 there this same year, and it was also in the Peruvian capital where they began their journey to this new final, starting their participation away against to Sporting Cristal.
