The US has delivered 313 criminals to Mexico during the Trump administration
After reporting on the arrest of a man wanted in Mexico, US Ambassador Ronald Johnson stated that Washington has handed over 313 criminals
The United States ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson, stated that Washington handed over 313 people wanted by Mexican justice since the government of US President Donald Trump took power in January 2025.
Johnson mentioned the figure, when reporting in a message on X the arrest of a Mexican citizen wanted in Mexico for prostitution of a minor and sexual assault.
“During President Trump's Administration, the United States has transferred 313 people wanted by justice to Mexico to face the consequences of their actions,” he noted.
However, Johnson did not provide details about the 313 people transferred nor did he specify under what mechanisms they were handed over to the Mexican authorities.
Trump's second term began in January 2025, since which time pressure has increased on the Mexican government to toughen the fight against drug trafficking.
The diplomat added that this arrest carried out by the Border Patrol in the Rio Grande Valley “represents another example of the solid binational cooperation” promoted by President Trump and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.
The statement came days after the US Embassy announced a “new era” of security cooperation following a meeting between representatives of 15 US agencies and Mexican authorities.
In recent weeks, Johnson has also repeatedly highlighted bilateral coordination on issues such as the fight against drug trafficking, border security and information exchange.
Among recent cases, in the opposite direction, Mexico transferred to the United States last January 37 prisoners wanted for alleged links to criminal organizations.
