Mexican Legends defeat FIFA Legends on penalties in a friendly match in Monterrey

The FIFA Legends were defeated on penalties after a 5-5 draw in regulation time in a match that brought together some of the greatest figures in world football. The match served as a promotional event leading up to the upcoming World Cup, of which four matches will be played in this same stadium, and stirred nostalgia and excitement among thousands of fans. Special match leading up to the World Cup: The match was played on a reduced-size pitch with a special format: nine players per team and two 35-minute halves. These conditions did not prevent the talent from shining, especially in the FIFA Legends team, where 2010 World Cup champions like crowd.
The FIFA Legends' response was immediate. Two minutes later, Xavi Hernandez produced a moment of magic and, with a high shot, beat 'El Conejo' Perez to equalize. In the 17th minute, a precise cross from Cafu was headed in by Alessandro Del Piero, making it 1-2.
Exchange of goals and constant excitement
The score was leveled again in the 31st minute thanks to Luis Hernandez, who scored with a low shot to make it 2-2 before halftime.
In the second half, Andres Guardado surprised everyone in the 36th minute with a perfectly weighted cross that Aldo de Nigris headed in to make it 3-2, beating Colombian goalkeeper Rene Higuita.
The FIFA Legends responded emphatically. Cafu scored to make it 3-3 in the 39th minute with a low, driven shot across goal, and Patrick Kluivert put the visitors ahead 3-4 in the 42nd minute.
Dramatic finish and penalty shootout
The match maintained its intensity until the very end. Miguel Layun, one of the players most cheered by the fans, tied the game 4-4 in the 45th minute with a powerful right-footed shot. However, Cafu reappeared in the 57th minute to make it 4-5 in a one-on-one against Moises Munoz.
When it seemed that victory would go to the international team, Fabian scored the final 5-5 with a free kick in the last minute, taking the match to a penalty shootout.

In the shootout, Legends Mexico was more accurate. Luis Hernandez, Andres Guardado, and Fabian scored for the Mexican side, while Sergio Busquets and Alessandro Del Piero netted for the FIFA Legends.
