Mexico confirms Randy Arozarena's power for the World Baseball Classic
Randy Arozarena confirmed his presence in the 2026 edition of the World Baseball Classic with the Mexican team in search of another outstanding performance
The Seattle Mariners player of Major League Baseball (MLB), Randy Arozarena, was confirmed as part of the roster that Mexico will present in the next edition of the World Baseball Classic, which will be held in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Japan
The Originally from the island of Cuba, but with Mexican nationality and part of the Seattle Mariners roster, he was the player who made the difference in the last edition of this international tournament held three years ago, where the Mexican team was ultimately eliminated by Japan with the tremendous Shohei Ohtani on its roster. Arozarena was a magnet for success in the last edition of this competition, earning a spot on the All-Star team at outfielder, alongside figures like Mike Trout (United States) and Masataka Yoshida (Japan), with phenomenal numbers: .450, 1 HR, 9 RBI, .607 OBP, .900 SLG, and 1.507 OPS. He led the Mexican team in batting average, RBIs, OBP (on-base percentage), slugging percentage, and OPS (OBP + slugging percentage).
Arozarena, who was born 30 years ago in Arroyos de Mantua, Cuba, began his baseball career in Pinar del Rio in 2013. He then moved to Mexico in 2015 and was drawn to life there. The Tijuana Toros took him under their wing, developing him professionally until his debut in the Mexican Baseball League. He was later signed by the St. Louis Cardinals, with whom he made his Major League debut in 2019 after trying his luck in the minor leagues in the United States.
There, Arozarena played for Palm Beach (A+), Springfield (AA), and Memphis (AAA), steadily gaining experience. After his outstanding performance in the World Baseball Classic, he was traded to the Seattle Mariners in 2014, where he was named to the All-Star Game.
He then participated in the American League Championship Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, after the Mexican player hit 27 home runs in the 2025 season,in his highest number in the seven years he has accumulated in the Major Leagues.
Arozarena's presence gives the Mexican team an extra boost in this competition, where Mexico will seek to surpass the third place finish of the 2023 edition of the World Baseball Classic.
